MQResource: Tell us about your family. I’m married with no children (and if you saw how spoiled my two dogs are you would understand why we never attempted raising any two legged kids). MQR: Where do you call home? My husband and I have lived in New Braunfels, Texas for the past year and a half. Before moving to Texas, we called the heart of the Sunshine State, Miami, our home. MQR: How long have you been quilting? I started quilting about 10 years ago. After a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis interrupted my career as a jeweler, one day I decided I would make a quilt for my bed. I figured it would satisfy my physical therapist’s demand that I work on my fine motor skills, give me a creative outlet, and I’d end up with something fabulous I could put in my room. I was definitely delusional but at the time I didn’t have a clue. You know what they say … “Ignorance is bliss”. Although my first quilt was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done, I was hooked. But I really hated quilting. It was too physically exhausting, and I my hands didn’t have enough strength to really maintain any control. Then I stumbled across an HQ16 vendor at a quilt show. Thirty days later I had my HQ16. MQR: Do you still do much piecing, or are you all about the quilting? I divide my time 50/50. MQR: How did you get into designing? When I started quilting I found that the selection of pantographs for a mid-arm was rather limited and I wanted more of a choice. So I initially started designing pantographs just for myself, and my HQ16. Then I became addicted to designing them as well. It’s challenging, and it’s a thrill when a pattern turns out beautiful and interlocks well. MQR: What is the most challenging part of quilting for you? Finding enough time! MQR: What are your favorite quilting tools? My imagination. MQR: What hobbies do you have (beyond quilting)? I still dabble in jewelry design, and I love to read. MQR: What are your three favorite foods? Lobster, Caesar salad, and crème brulee … or maybe it’s duck, potatoes au gratin, and rhubarb cherry pie. Or possibly ... wait … do I have to pick just three? MQR: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Coffee (or buttered almond). MQR: Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks? Both … it just depends on my mood. MQR: What is your favorite beverage? Coffee (I think I see a trend here …) MQR: What is your least favorite food? Anything that includes any sort of “wet bread” … i.e. dumplings, tamales, etc. MQR: What are your favorite books/authors? John D. MacDonald, Jeffrey Deaver, Robert B. Parker, Stuart Woods, Lee Childs, John Sandford, James Patterson … did I mention I like to read? MQR: What are your favorite movies? My Favorite Year, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Moonstruck, Finding Forrester, Pay it Forward, An American President, Sense and Sensibilty, French Kiss, The Big Easy, Kissing Jessica Stein … I guess I neglected to mention that I like watching movies as well. MQR: What is one of your goals for 2008? To win the lottery? …. To keep designing, and to keep learning new techniques.
